Rose Jewelers was founded in 1980 by Jim Rose III, known by family as “Big Jim.” When he retired, he passed the reins to his son, Jim Rose IV, who intends to carry the torch for another 40 years.

Jim originally founded Rose Jewelers in his father’s basement. During his 40 years in the jewelry industry, Jim trained over a dozen jewelers in the craft and performed the work for 29 stores in Kalamazoo and surrounding areas. Anyone who knows jewelry in southwest Michigan knows Jim Rose.

Although he’s retired, Jim continues to provide oversight and recommendations for the store.

The Rose Jewelers Story

as told by Jim Rose IV

Humble beginnings

When my father came back from the Navy, he started working for a jewelry store downtown replacing batteries in watches and fixing electric razors. The head jeweler gave him an opportunity to start sizing rings, and that is where his career began.

In 1980, he started his own business in the basement of his father’s house. From there he grew Rose Jewelers to what we are today. In 1985, he purchased what was then the original Ample Pantry and turned it into a jewelry trade shop.

Over the next 20 years, Rose Jewelers performed the work for 29 various stores in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and Grand Rapids. Having over a million jobs come across our benches, we know what it takes to repair jewelry.

A new era

In 2008, my father closed up his wholesale accounts and started slowing down the business. In 2014, I decided to quit what my career was at the time to come back to the family store and open it up to the public, bringing in the new era of what Rose Jewelers is today.

Of the thousands of pieces of jewelry I’ve worked on, very rarely are two exactly alike. The options for what an engagement ring can be made of have changed greatly with the introduction of lab grown diamonds and gemstones, simulants, online stone purchasing, and direct wholesale purchasing from the natural dealers.

One-of-a-kind jewelry, made locally

I wanted to bring to Kalamazoo the opportunity to design exactly what they want, and within their budget. So I spent the last 10 years creating relationships with small businesses around the world, that do their specific thing well, and ethically. Whether you are looking for a world class showpiece or a simple band, we can make it.

We have invested in some of the best technology and education available to ensure that the quality of the mountings we make are top notch, and at a fair price. Our pricing is transparent, and I will walk you through every step and option available to ensure you are happy with the cost and look before making your piece.

We take pride in the fact that our jewelry is made in house, right here in Kalamazoo.

Thank you for taking the time to read about us, and I look forward to serving you.

Welcome to the Rose Jewelers Family!
